Waking up and realizing that you have no heat in your home can be very frightening, not to mention very uncomfortable. This is something that you want fixed right away. However, having a technician come out to look at your furnace can be expensive. Therefore, there a few things that you can check on your own first prior to calling the professionals.
- Check out your electrical panel to see if you blew a fuse or tripped a breaker. If you find that this is the problem, you can replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker and see if that works.
- An important thing to check is if your furnace is set to “heat.” If not, set it to heat and then wait and see if your home begins to warm up.
- Take a look at your pilot light. Is it still lit? Is the gas valve on? If not, re-light the pilot light.
Also, there’s a possibility that your thermostat may be the problem, so try playing around with it and setting it at different temperatures.
